Pompeii Slot Review for Canada — RTP, Free Spins and Where to Play

The Pompeii slot is the rare Aristocrat title where a Canadian player need not take an affiliate's word for its return: Play Alberta, AGLC's own regulated platform, prints RTP: 94.02% on the game page itself — while almost every affiliate page prints 95.45%.

Every figure below names the operator that published it, never an average of the field. The paytable is read the way this game pays — 25 coins a spin, 243 ways, no paylines — and the top paying combination is stated both ways. One thing is worth settling first: at least six games carry the name Pompeii, and only one is the 243-ways original.

FanDuel Casino Ontario publishes its own Pompeii game page — region ON, C$0.25 to C$150 a spin — and appears in iGaming Ontario's operator directory, accurate as of 22 July 2026. 19+ · T&Cs apply ¹

  • Six games, four studios, one name. Our own catalogue returns Pompeii Rising Jackpots (Aristocrat), Pompeii Megareels Megaways (Pragmatic Play), two Pompeii Gold Rapid Link titles (NetGame) and Pompeii Apocalypse (NSoft) — and the 243-ways Aristocrat original is not among them.

  • Ontario availability, confirmed at one operator. FanDuel Casino Ontario publishes its own Pompeii game page, region ON, C$0.25 to C$150 a spin. None of the other registered sites we read published a list complete enough to settle the question either way.

The feature carries the game. Three, four or five Gold Coin scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free games on Bonus Reels; the Volcano wild lands on reels 2 and 4 only, and in those free games it multiplies the combination it completes by 3×, 5× or 15×.

  • !

The top combination, stated both ways. Top paying combination: 96× total bet, plus up to 50× total bet of scatter win on the same spin. The same combination in free games, both wilds: 1,440× total bet — the studio publishes no max-win cap.

  • Do this before you spin: open the game-info panel and read the studio name and the ways count. Play Alberta's demo mode runs the original — no registration, no deposit.

Beyond the score The full experience

Ash, gold and a fixed camera

Pompeii draws in flat, high-contrast plates — a volcano wild, a gold coin scatter, then the dolphins amulet, helmet, armour and chariot above the card ranks.

The art does recognition work, not immersion work. You are meant to know this machine from the floor.

Beside a 2026 release it reads plain: little depth, card ranks under just four premium symbols.

A voice line, and a demo to judge the rest

CasinoCanada lists a ‘Julius Caesar’ voice line among its pros. Play Alberta's demo mode runs the original.

Sound sets the mood, not the maths — the paytable and the info panel are where a decision gets made.

CoolOldGames' reviewer credits the free-games round with doing most of the selling here. Play Alberta’s demo mode runs the original, so you can judge the presentation there for yourself.

A city, a volcano, no narrative

The published rules cover reels, one wild, one scatter and a free-games round. No story mode, no character arc.

What the name really carries is shelf space: six games from four studios.

Pompeii Rising Jackpots, a Pragmatic Play Megaways build, two NetGame Rapid Link titles and an NSoft release share the word. The studio badge in the game-info panel separates them.

Why this scored a 6.8

Play Alberta publishes 94.02%, a house edge of 5.98%, and that return waits inside a round three Gold Coin scatters open.

Read it as a one-feature game with a long approach — the base reels buy the ticket, not the attraction.

What pulled it up: a clean 3× / 5× / 15× ladder and two confirmed Canadian routes. What pulled it down: a return under the modern benchmark, and a base game that leaves the weight of that return in one round. Top paying combination · 96× total bet; the same combination in free games, both wilds · 1,440× total bet. The studio publishes no max-win cap.

★ Editor's verdict
Play Alberta publishes 94.02% on its own game page, against the 95.45% the affiliate field prints. Open the info panel in your own lobby before you stake.

Play it if

  • You want the smallest ticket onto a 243-ways board: the fixed 25-coin spin is C$0.25, so C$100 is 400 spins at the minimum
  • You are here for the round — 10, 15 or 20 free games, the volcano wild paying on reel 2, on reel 4, 15× on both
  • You can sit out the drought between triggers: high volatility pays in lumps

Give it a pass if

  • You are chasing a headline jackpot: SlotsSpot and FreeSlotsHub both record no progressive jackpot on this game — the top paying combination is 96× total bet, or 1,440× total bet in free games with both wilds
  • You price a spin by trimming lines: every spin is a fixed 25 coins, so coin size is your only dial
  • You put return first — at Play Alberta's 94.02% the edge is 5.98%; see why the highest-payout slots aren't best

How to tell them apart in a lobby

  • The studio badge in the game-info panel. Aristocrat on two; Pragmatic Play, NetGame or NSoft on the rest.

Aristocrat's own page at /slots/games/pompeii is Pompeii Rising, not the 243-ways original, so the info panel settles it. Pragmatic Play publishes the 96% return for its Pompeii Megareels Megaways; the 117,649 ways, the 10,000× top win and the February 2024 release date are casino.guru's figures.

★ 10 / 15 / 20 free games · wilds on reels 2 and 4 · up to 15×

A scatter ladder that pays as it triggers

Three, four or five Gold Coin scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free games, and the same spin pays 125×, 500× or 1,250× coin size. Play Alberta's rule text publishes that ladder; the CoolOldGames paytable matches.

The Volcano wild lands on reels 2 and 4 only, substituting for every symbol, scatters included. Play Alberta publishes , and 15× during free games; the CoolOldGames paytable maps them to the reels — 3× on reel 2, 5× on reel 4, 15× on both. Free games run on Bonus Reels, retrigger on three to five scatters, at the triggering bet level.

✦ 243 ways · nothing to select

A 243-ways rhythm with the return parked in the feature

Reel Power pays across adjacent reels rather than along lines, so there is nothing to select. A high-volatility rating implies small base-game wins between long gaps, the return sitting in the free games. A long run without a trigger is ordinary here — budget for the wait.

✦ URComped's machine · Play Alberta's online rules

The machine URComped describes, and the online rule text

URComped describes the machine awarding 15 free games for a Gold Coin on each of the first three reels; the online rule text Play Alberta publishes pays 10, 15 or 20 for scatters landing anywhere. Online, nothing is configurable. The comparison is ours.

✦ The bet ladder, in C$

Coin size 0.01 to 4, and what the 15× rides on

Coin sizes run from 0.01 to 4C$0.25 to C$100 a spin. FanDuel's Ontario page publishes C$0.25 to C$150 — that operator's build runs a wider coin ladder than the field prints, and the in-game info panel is the authority for the build you are on. Every multiplier settles against coin size.

✦ Browser build · check it on your own screen

Three things to check on your own phone

The build runs in a browser on either screen; the questions below are worth answering on your own screen, in demo mode.

✦ Reel art · the volcano backdrop · a build the field dates to 2012

A build that still announces itself

The reel art is the original Roman set — dolphins amulet, helmet, armour, chariot — over a volcano backdrop. CasinoCanada describes Mount Vesuvius erupting when it lands in a winning combination; CoolOldGames calls the eruption a background animation, and a nice touch. The affiliate field dates the online build to 2012, period beside a current release.

The ceiling this build does not publish

Our arithmetic puts the top paying combination at 96× total bet in the base game — dolphins amulet five of a kind, 2,400 ÷ 25 — plus up to 50× total bet of scatter win on the same spin. The same combination in free games, both wilds, is 1,440× total bet. Ways add and rounds retrigger, so the studio publishes no max-win cap.

09 Symbols & paytable

Ten paying symbols, one scatter, one coin-size basis

Every figure here is a multiple of the coin size, not of the stake — Play Alberta states that conversion itself.

Symbol table · CoolOldGames 243 ways · 25 coins a spin

How to read this paytable

Every value below is a multiple of the coin size, and every spin costs a fixed 25 coins. Play Alberta prints the rule — Total Bet = Coin Size × 25 — so a coin-size figure divided by 25 is the stake multiple.

The ten-symbol table is CoolOldGames’. Play Alberta publishes the RTP, the 25-coin rule, the scatter ladder and the multiplier values, then sends players to the in-game screen: “select GAME INFO to view the payouts”. Both print the scatter row, and agree.

The number most pages quote without its basis 2,400 is × the coin size — at 25 coins a spin that is 96× the total bet Play Alberta’s rule text sets that conversion.

Which symbol pays the most

The dolphins amulet heads the paytable at 2,400 × coin size for five of a kind, with the helmet at 2,000. With 243 ways a win needs the symbol on consecutive reels from the left, each used once per combination.

The two big numbers, in their proper labels

Top paying combination: 96× total bet — the dolphins five-of-a-kind, plus up to 50× total bet of scatter win on the same spin. The same combination in free games, both wilds: 1,440× total bet, carried by the 15× two-wild multiplier. Ways can add and rounds retrigger, so neither figure is a ceiling: the studio publishes no max-win cap here.

Where the published figures differ

Three numbers circulate that this paytable does not produce: CasinoCanada prints a 12,500-coin jackpot, FreeSlotsHub 37,500 coins, SlotsSpot a max win of 2,500. Against a 2,400 top count and a 1,250 scatter count, none reconciles. Each stays with its own page.

How the facts column is counted Four things are readable before you stake: the brand in the iGO directory, the game named on the operator’s own page, a bet range, an RTP.
Why the order is what it is

FanDuel takes row one on evidence

It is the only one of the sites we read whose own pages name this game — region ON, provider reference ART_play-pompeii, bet range C$0.25 to C$150. Row one records evidence, not preference. iGaming Ontario keeps the register that lists each brand. It listed 48 operators and 82 gaming websites when we read it — “accurate as of 2026-07-22”, in the register’s own words. Six sites is a sample, not the whole.

What “not confirmed” means in rows two to six

We opened these five at the addresses the iGO directory publishes on 4 August 2026. Four returned HTTP 200; the Caesars Ontario address did not complete on our side — a proxy fault in our own tooling, not a fault of the site. Of the four that answered, two were read only in part: DraftKings and Golden Nugget return long lobby front pages, and we captured the opening 60,000 characters of each. Three of the five addresses served a page built for another market — DraftKings and Golden Nugget answered as US lobbies, and the BetRivers link in the register resolved to a New York sportsbook page. So we read BetRivers’ own Ontario site, on.betrivers.ca, as well: a promotions and account landing page for its casino and sportsbook, with no game list on it. BetMGM’s Ontario lobby shows a promoted strip and keeps the rest behind its own “See All (678)” control. Not one of these pages is a complete Ontario library, so none of them settles the question either way. Each button opens that operator’s own site, where you can search the lobby yourself. The Caesars .com site carries Pompeii Rising Jackpots — a later build, not the 243-ways original.

The Crown platform is a name-only row

Play Alberta is AGLC’s own site and carries no affiliate route. It publishes the material figures: the game page, the 94.02% return, and a demo mode needing no registration or deposit.

Before you deposit

The Canadian safe-casino checklist

Registration is the first filter, banking the second. Interac itself says “nearly all Canadian banks and credit unions” offer e-Transfer — a consumer product page, silent on casino cashiers. Play Alberta’s Player Agreement sets out its own cashier in full: deposits by Visa, Master Card, PayPal, Apple Pay or INTERAC e-Transfer, withdrawals by electronic bank transfer, PayPal or INTERAC e-Transfer, in Canadian dollars, to a Canadian account in your own name. Every other operator publishes its own list — read that one first.

  • Find the brand in the iGO directory before you register.
  • Open BetGuard, or your province’s self-exclusion tool, before you fund the account.
  • Confirm the wallet bills in C$, with no conversion at cashout.
  • Look for Interac e-Transfer as a withdrawal method, not deposit-only.
  • Check which deposit methods void bonus eligibility on the operator’s terms page.

¹ The 19+ on every row is iGaming Ontario’s market rule — “19+. Must be physically located in Ontario to play.” — not a per-operator reading. The terms are each operator’s own; read them at opt-in. ² Read on FanDuel’s own Ontario game page, 4 August 2026.

14 Player Q&A · Questions this game raises

Five questions worth answering before you spin

The five that keep coming back — why a lobby won't load the game, whether a deposit is needed to try it, what a real-money round can pay, whether a jackpot exists at all, and how this one differs from Miss Kitty.

Q

Why won't the game load for me?

CW

Three usual causes: the lobby is serving a different Pompeii, your province is lottery-only, or the browser is blocking the frame. Check the studio badge.

Claire Wilson
Q

Do I need to deposit to play Pompeii?

CW

No. Play Alberta's own game page states the title can be tried free in demo mode, no registration and no deposit. The demo above is Pompeii Rising Jackpots, not the original.

Claire Wilson
Q

Can I win real cash on Pompeii?

CW

Yes, in a regulated provincial lobby. The top paying combination pays 96× the total bet; the same combination in free games, both wilds, pays 1,440× the total bet. The studio publishes no max-win cap.

Claire Wilson
Q

Does Pompeii have a jackpot?

AM

Not on this build. SlotsSpot lists no progressive and Play Alberta's rule text describes none. Pompeii Rising Jackpots carries the Grand, Major, Minor and Mini tiers.

Andrew Murray
Q

Is Pompeii the same as Miss Kitty?

CW

No — different games, different paytables, different published returns. Our Miss Kitty slot review covers that one.

Availability across Canada, province by province

Two provinces run open, competitive markets. Everywhere else the provincial platform is the regulated route, and the answer changes at the border.

Alberta open since 13 July 2026 Confirm your own province first
The open markets

Ontario — the open market came first

Two bodies make an operator legal here: the AGCO grants the registration, and iGaming Ontario conducts and manages the market. The rule is 19+ and physically in Ontario.

Alberta — regulated since 13 July 2026

Alberta opened a regulated market on 13 July 2026 on the same two-body shape: AGLC regulates, the Alberta iGaming Corporation holds the commercial agreements. Play Alberta’s own Player Agreement sets its registration age: at least 18 years of age and physically located within Alberta. AGLC runs a centralised Self-Exclusion Program covering platforms, venues, or both.

Why the answer changes at a provincial border

Supply decides it, not preference. Play Alberta carries Aristocrat Interactive content under a partnership announced in July 2024 — hence the game page and the 94.02% figure. Loto-Québec’s first Aristocrat Interactive titles went live in late June 2026, while the studio’s own white-label casinos left Ontario in November 2025.

Outside Ontario and Alberta the provincial platform is the regulated route. Each age above comes from the source named beside it: iGaming Ontario’s directory prints 19+ as the market rule, the B.C. government’s gambling page 19 years or older, and Play Alberta’s Player Agreement requires its own registrants to be “at least 18 years of age” and physically in Alberta — that 18 is Play Alberta’s registration age, and Alberta’s market only opened to private operators on 13 July 2026, with none of their ages in our sources. Where no age appears, the platform states it at sign-up. B.C. has moved regulation from the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch to the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO). Saskatchewan’s regulator is the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority: SaskGaming operates “under the regulatory authority” of the SLGA and runs Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw — two buildings, not an online platform. The Atlantic row is Atlantic Lottery’s own platform; its home page does not set out which provinces it covers, so confirm that there. No provincial iGaming regulator is named for the territories in the sources on this page. Next step: the responsible gambling section above.

Ages, limits and where to get help

Play Alberta publishes 94.02% on its own Pompeii page, leaving a 5.98% house edge: every C$100 cycled costs C$5.98 over the long run. Your province sets the minimum age and the protection tools — see the availability table below.

Worth acting on: chasing a loss back, going past the stake you set, funding play with borrowed money, or opening the lobby to get away from something else. Deposit limits and time-outs sit in every regulated lobby's account menu; ConnexOntario answers on 1-866-531-2600.

Ontario19+ · AGCO & iGaming Ontario

BetGuard is Ontario's province-wide digital self-exclusion: one request covers every registered site, for six months to five years. OLG runs My PlayBreak alongside it, and ConnexOntario answers on 1-866-531-2600.

Alberta18+ · open since 13 July 2026

AGLC runs a centralized Self-Exclusion Program — exclude from registered iGaming platforms, from land-based venues, or both. GameSense sits in the lobby, and the AHS Addictions Help Line answers on 1-866-332-2322.

Tools & termsEvery province, every lobby

Elsewhere the provincial platforms carry the routes: GameSense with BCLC, whose self-exclusion program on PlayNow is called Game Break, then Loto-Québec, PlayNow in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. Offer terms change — a verification date is the date we last read them.

Gambling is entertainment, not income. Be of legal age in your province — 19+ in Ontario, 18+ in Alberta, with the table below carrying each one — and T&Cs apply. ¹ Wagering, eligibility and licence detail for each listed offer sit on that operator's own terms page.

16 Frequently asked questions

What Canadian players ask about Pompeii

Taken from the live Canadian People Also Ask sets on 4 August 2026, answered with the figure the operator itself publishes.

01

What does the Pompeii slot machine say?

CasinoCanada describes Mount Vesuvius erupting when it lands in a winning combination; other write-ups call the eruption a background animation. Play Alberta's demo mode runs the original, so you can watch for it yourself.

02

What does 243 ways mean on a slot machine?

Matching symbols pay on adjacent reels from the left in any position — no paylines to select. Pompeii uses Aristocrat's Reel Power: every spin is a fixed 25 coins.

03

How do you trigger free spins on slots?

Land the scatter. Here it is the Gold Coin on any reels: three award 10 free games, four 15, five 20, paying 125×, 500× or 1,250× coin size.

04

What slot machines have the highest RTP in Canada?

Ask the lobby, not a list: the figure sits in each game's info panel. Pompeii is not among them — Play Alberta publishes 94.02%, below the field; Pragmatic Play publishes 96% for Pompeii Megareels Megaways.

05

How to tell if a slot machine has a high RTP?

Open the game's info or paytable panel in the lobby you are in — that is the figure the operator publishes for the build you are on. Affiliate pages print 95.45%; Play Alberta's own page prints 94.02%.

06

What happens if you win at a Canadian casino?

For most Canadian players casino winnings are treated as windfalls rather than income, and the treatment can differ where play is carried on as a business. The published position is the CRA's income tax folio S3-F9-C1.

07

What online casinos pay out instantly in Canada?

Route beats promise: a provincially regulated lobby, KYC completed before your first withdrawal, and Interac e-Transfer as the standard Canadian rail. Ontario's operators sit in iGaming Ontario's own directory.

08

Do Megaways slots have a fixed jackpot?

Rarely — the top prize is a multiplier, not a fixed sum. Pragmatic Play publishes 96% RTP for Pompeii Megareels Megaways; casino.guru lists 117,649 ways, high volatility, a 10,000× top win. Here the top paying combination is 96× total bet.

09

What is the $20 slot method?

A bankroll rule, not an edge. C$20 at Pompeii's C$0.25 minimum spin is 80 spins, carrying about C$1.20 of expected cost at 94.02%. No one can promise a trigger inside 80 spins.
