Cleopatra Slot Review for US Players: RTP, Free Spins & Where to Play

IGT's Cleopatra is the Egyptian classic that walked off the mid-2000s casino floor and became an online staple in January 2012. Two state-licensed US operators publish two different returns for it.

Cleopatra Slot Review US: RTP, Free Spins & Where to Play is an independent, hands-on review and guide from SlotsGamblers, written for US players, with every figure checked against primary sources — the provider’s published specification, the operator’s own terms and the licence register — rather than operator marketing.

This review reads the paytable the way the game actually pays — per line bet, the basis every rival gets wrong — states both max-win definitions instead of one, shows where the 95.02% return really sits, and prices the offers wrapped around it once you read what the "1×" applies to.

BetMGM Casino is state-licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and the West Virginia Lottery. Its own pages state a $20 minimum withdrawal and an internal review of up to 5 business days. 21+ · T&Cs apply.

  • ✓

The RTP is not one number. BetMGM prints 95.02% on its own Cleopatra page and adds that the return varies by jurisdiction. DraftKings prints 92.02% for the same IGT title on its own page. Two published figures, never averaged here — so the only number that matters to you is the RTP line in the lobby you are actually in.

  • ✓

The bonus round is the game. Three or more Sphinx scatters award 15 free spins with every win tripled, and that single round carries 25.470% of the game's total return. The base reels do the waiting; the free spins do the paying.

  • !

The wait has a price. The bonus triggers on about 1 spin in 138, and the average bonus pays 35.10× the total bet. At $0.20 a spin the average wait costs roughly $27.60 in turnover and hands back about $7.02.

  • !

Max win, stated both ways. Max win per spin is 10,000 × the LINE bet — that is 500× the total bet on 20 lines, not 10,000× your stake. The max game-round win is the same ceiling, because five Cleopatras is the one payout the 3× multiplier does not triple.

  • ✓

It pays often, in small amounts. Hit frequency is 35.88% with all 20 lines active, from a published simulation. Line pays carry 52.047% of the return and scatter pays 17.508%, which is why the reels feel forgiving between bonuses.

  • →

Verdict — 7.5/10: bought for one round, and everything else is the price of admission. The demo below is free, runs in the browser and needs no signup and no download. The app-store "Cleopatra" titles are separate social games.

04 Verdict & scorecard

Why Cleopatra scores a 7.5 — the round that carries the game

One round decides this game. The free-spins feature carries 25.470% of Cleopatra's entire theoretical return, while the base reels hold 52.047% in line pays and 17.508% in scatter pays. Everything else is the price of waiting for that round.

Beyond the score The full experience — past the numbers

Gold, lapis and a camera that never moves

Cleopatra draws in flat, high-contrast plates — gold cartouche, blue-green scarab, cream lotus — and the symbol set carries the whole theme on its own.

The art does recognition work, not immersion work. You are meant to know this machine on sight.

That same flat, unchanged art is why a player who knows it from a casino floor recognises it at a glance, and why a reader arriving from a 2026 release calls it dated inside ten seconds. Both readings are fair.

A drum beat, a win jingle, and no soundtrack

We report the audio the way players report it. Across the community reviews we read the description is consistent: no real background music, a drum beat on the spin, and a jingle when a line pays.

Thin, repetitive audio is one of the two complaints raised most often — the other is that the game looks its age.

Treat that as a fact about the game rather than a verdict on it. A thin mix means there is no loop to get tired of over a long session, and it is the clearest sign of when this machine was built.

A queen, a temple, and no narrative at all

There is no story mode, no character arc, no cutscene. The theme is carried by the symbol set alone: the queen as wild, the Sphinx as scatter, the Eye of Ra beneath them.

This is theme as shorthand, not theme as fiction — Egypt is here to get you to the paytable faster.

The design predates the era when a slot had to explain itself. What it loses in depth it returns in speed.

A long flat stretch, then the round that decides it

At twenty lines small returns land often enough that a balance drifts rather than drops. Then the drift ends, because the feature holds most of the return.

The feel is a low simmer punctuated by one event, and the paytable states which of the two pays you.

Bonus rounds average 16.83 free spins and return about 35.10× the total bet. On the published maths one arrives every 138 spins — an average, not a schedule.

Why this scored a 7.5 — the editor's read

Two figures set the score. The feature carries 25.470% of the return, the best thing about the game. The published 95.02% sits below the modern benchmark, the plainest thing against it.

Read it as a one-round game with a long approach — the base reels are the fare, not the ride.

What pulled it up: a wide staking range and the cleanest version of the free-spins mechanic. What pulled it down: a return under benchmark, and a second operator publishing lower.

★ Editor's verdict
Two numbers decide this one. 25.470% — the share of the return locked inside the free-spins round, which is where the game keeps its money. And 95.02% — BetMGM's published figure, below the modern benchmark, with DraftKings printing 92.02% for the same title. Read the RTP line in your own lobby before you set a stake.

  • DraftKings publishes a total-bet range of $0.01 to $600

Play the Cleopatra demo — read the paytable before it costs anything

The free Cleopatra demo is a play-money version of the same IGT title — no signup, no deposit. Use it to learn the rule most reviews get wrong: line symbols pay on the line bet, the Sphinx scatter pays on the total bet. It is a way to read the paytable for free, not a guide to how the funded game will pay.

It settles a search question as well. There is nothing to download — the browser build is the game, and the app-store “Cleopatra” titles are separate social-casino products.

One exercise is worth the time: open the in-game i screen and find the RTP line. That is how you read the figure your own lobby publishes — 95.02% at BetMGM against 92.02% at DraftKings, each printed by the operator itself, and the only one that applies to you.

We print both attributed and never average them. Because the two published figures differ, the only number that matters to you is the one in your own lobby — open the in-game paytable and read the RTP line on its last page.

That is the price of the 3× round, not a warning. Shopping on return? Start with why the highest-payout slots aren't always best.

Reel construction — the outcome space

Reels 1–4 carry 30 positions each and reel 5 carries 41, for an outcome space of 33,210,000. One Sphinx per reel is why three landing together is a 1-in-138 event. The Cleopatra wild appears once on reels 1–4 and twice on reel 5 — that second wild puts a five-wild line in reach.

Where every number in this section comes from Studio paytable, operator page, or our own arithmetic

The line we drew. We read the 95.02% and the 92.02% from BetMGM's and DraftKings' own Cleopatra pages on 1 August 2026, after opening the game's rule screen. The return split, reel strips and hit-frequency table are published simulation output; the dollar figures are our arithmetic on that RTP.

How we review slot games, step by step

We read the rule screen, open the paytable on the live build before we write a number, and check the license on the state regulator's own register.

We publish the route to every figure, so you can walk it yourself. It is why two operators printing different returns for one IGT title became the headline here.

  2. 2

  4. 4
    The bonus terms

What we checkthe multiple, what it applies to, weighting, max bet in play-through, the cap, the expiry.

  5. 5
    The cashout path

What we checkmethods, minimums, fees, identity verification, the stated processing window.

What costs a game or an operator points

An RTP figure the lobby will not print. A max-bet rule that quietly makes a bonus unusable. Terms with no citable address. A cap below the game's own round potential.

08 Game inside

How Cleopatra actually plays, tab by tab

Six tabs, in the order the questions arrive once the demo is spinning — the round, the line selector, the sequels, session shape, and the phone build.

★ 15 free spins · all wins ×3 · retriggerable

Fifteen free spins at a flat 3× — with one exception

Three or more Sphinx scatters anywhere award 15 free spins, every win inside the round tripled, up to a 180-spin per-feature ceiling. The exception players find late: five-of-a-kind Cleopatra is not tripled. It stays flat at 10,000 × line bet — the max win per spin and the max game-round win alike, or 500 × total bet on 20 lines.

A wild completing a bonus win doubles on top of the round's 3× for 6× — the only multiplier stack here.

✦ 20 selectable lines · no cascades

Trimming lines cuts your hit rate, not your risk

There are 20 paylines, and the selector offers five settings — 1, 5, 9, 15 or 20. Total bet is line bet × lines played, so dropping from 20 to 5 cuts the price of a spin — and cuts hit frequency from 35.88% to 24.70%; at one line, 11.36%. The Sphinx is the exception: it pays on total bet wherever it lands.

✦ One name · five IGT builds

Which Cleopatra you are actually playing

Cleopatra II publishes a higher RTP — around 95%, with sources split on the exact figure — on far higher volatility, which is why switching on that number alone disappoints. Cleopatra Gold reworks the features at 95.97% with a 5,250× ceiling; MegaJackpots returns in the low 90s. For modern mechanics, our Eye of Cleopatra page covers the Pragmatic Play title.

✦ The wait · the round · the settle

The round settles the session, not the base-game grind

Line pays return 52.047% and scatter pays 17.508%, so the base game hands back about two thirds of an already thin total; the remaining 25.470% sits inside the free-spins round. That is the shape: a long stretch of small wins that quietly costs you, then one round that settles the afternoon.

✦ Desktop, laptop and mobile · nothing to download

No app, no download — the browser build is the game

BetMGM lists the game for desktop, laptop and mobile on its own page, and it plays in the browser on each of them. There is nothing to install: the app-store titles carrying this name are separate social-casino products, not this game. FanDuel labels the title "Land Based" and "Medium volatility" in its own lobby.

✦ Recognisable on sight · thin audio

The art is why you know it — and why it reads old

The flat, high-contrast symbol art is what players say makes this machine recognisable from the casino floor, and the same players say it looks its age. Dated graphics and thin audio are the two complaints raised most often in the community reviews we read: no background music, a drum beat on the spin, a jingle on a win.

Price the turnover before you take an offer

A $25 bonus with 10x wagering on the bonus alone is $250 of turnover; at the published 95.02% that playthrough costs about $12.45, leaving roughly $12.55 before any cap. At 30× the turnover is $750, the expected cost $37.35, and the offer turns expected-negative. The multiple matters less than what it applies to — bonus only, or deposit plus bonus.

09 Symbols & paytable

Every line pay is a multiple of the line bet

Twelve line symbols pay on an active line, and every figure in the paytable below is a multiple of the line bet. The Sphinx is the exception: it pays a multiple of the total bet, from anywhere on the reels.

Free spins roundThree or more Sphinx, anywhere
Fifteen free spins, every win tripled except five Cleopatras, which stays flat at 10,000. A wild doubles first, so wild-assisted bonus lines run at 6×. Both the max win per spin and the max game-round win are that same 10,000 × line bet ceiling; the paytable's absolute limit on any wager is 25,000,000.00 credits.

10,000 × line bet, priced in dollars

Set all twenty lines at $0.10 and your total bet is $2.00. Five Cleopatra wilds on one of those lines pays 10,000 × $0.10 = $1,000 — 500× the $2.00 you staked, not $20,000. A headline written as "10,000× your bet" overstates the real ceiling twentyfold.

Wild behaviour

The wild doubles, with one exception

The Cleopatra symbol substitutes for everything except the Sphinx and doubles any win it completes — the one exception being a win made up only of Cleopatras. Where a line qualifies two ways, the game settles the higher read.

The Sphinx pays on the total bet

Two Sphinx pay 2× the total bet, three pay 5×, four pay 20× and five pay 100×, wherever they land. Only the highest combination pays. Two pay but do not open the feature — three is the trigger, and the only route into the tripled round.

Why the 9 pays two of a kind

The 9 returns 2 for two in a row; the 10, jack, queen, king and ace pay nothing until three land. Two independent readings of the paytable agree, and the combination table counts 118,080 two-in-a-row nine combinations, so the asymmetry is deliberate rather than a transcription error.

Cutting lines is the expensive mistake

The selector offers 1, 5, 9, 15 or 20 lines — nothing in between. Hit frequency runs at 35.88% across 20 lines, falls to 24.70% at five lines and collapses to 11.36% at one. Fewer lines at the same line bet buys fewer hits per dollar, and it is the most common staking error on this game.

What a bonus is worth, in arithmetic you can redo

A $25 bonus with 10x wagering on the bonus only is $250 of turnover; at the published 95.02% the expected cost of clearing that playthrough is $12.45, leaving roughly $12.55 of expected value before caps and expiry. Raise the wagering to 30x and the turnover becomes $750, the expected cost $37.35, and the same headline is expected-negative.

The two terms nobody puts in public

Not one of the five publishes either of these: the maximum bet allowed during play-through and the slots weighting table. Either can quietly undo an attractive multiple. Both appear in the terms you accept at opt-in, which makes reading that screen the most valuable thirty seconds of the process.

The safe-lobby checklist

Four checks settle it: the license number resolves on the state regulator's own register; the state self-exclusion program is linked inside the account area; balances and cashouts are in US dollars with a stated minimum, and BetMGM publishes $20; and the terms are visible before you opt in.

Cleopatra on the US state map

There is no federal online-casino law; each state writes its own. Seven run licensed real-money markets: New Jersey (Division of Gaming Enforcement), Pennsylvania (Gaming Control Board), Michigan (Gaming Control Board), West Virginia (Lottery), Connecticut (Department of Consumer Protection), Delaware and Rhode Island (both Lottery).

  • NJ New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement Open commercial
  • PA Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Open commercial
  • MI Michigan Gaming Control Board Open commercial
  • WV West Virginia Lottery Open commercial
  • CT Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Tribal · two operators
  • DE Delaware Lottery Lottery-run · single platform
  • RI Rhode Island Lottery Lottery-run · single platform

"Licensed" does not mean the same thing in all seven. Four run open commercial markets. Delaware and Rhode Island run a lottery-operated single-platform model, so the offers above generally are not claimable there, and Connecticut is a two-operator tribal market — DraftKings with Foxwoods, FanDuel with Mohegan Sun, no third choice. One frame rule holds throughout: real-money licensing and sweepstakes availability are separate bodies of law about separate products, so a state can license one and restrict the other without contradicting itself.

If your state is not on the list

The other legal path, explained

Outside those seven states the widely used route is the dual-currency sweepstakes model: play runs on a free virtual coin, and a second promotional currency can be redeemed under sweepstakes law. It is not state-regulated the way a licensed casino is, and eligibility depends on your state. Where real-money play is unavailable, the free demo above is a free play-money version of the same IGT title — useful for learning the paytable, not a guide to how the funded game will pay — and our guide to why the highest-payout slots are not always the best choice compares games that return genuinely more.

Which Cleopatra you are actually opening

The name spans a family and the builds are not interchangeable. The original is the 20-line IGT game reviewed here; the sequels change the mechanic, the ceiling and, in two cases, the return by several points. Cleopatra Grand reads as a cabinet title, yet on 1 August 2026 it was in both the Pennsylvania BetRivers lobby and the Golden Nugget lobby. Check the lobby's own header before you stake.

14 Player Q&A · Questions this game raises

The five questions worth answering before you spin

The desk's own answers, written by the people who wrote the rest of this page.

Q

Does betting all 20 lines improve my chances of the free spins?

CW

Not the trigger: the Sphinx scatter pays on total bet and lands anywhere. Coverage changes how often anything pays — hit frequency is 35.88% at 20 lines, 24.70% at five, 11.36% at one.

Q

Is the mobile version the same game as desktop?

CW

BetMGM lists the game for desktop, laptop and mobile on its own page, and there is no app to install — the browser build is the game. The app-store “Cleopatra” titles are separate products.

Q

Can I play Cleopatra with a casino bonus?

AM

Usually yes, but the cost is set by what the play-through applies to. A 1× on bonus only asks $100 of turnover on a $100 bonus; on deposit plus bonus, $200. See the True-Value Lab.

Q

What's the difference between Cleopatra, Cleopatra II and Cleopatra Gold?

CW

Cleopatra II publishes the higher return — around 95%, above this game's 95.02% — on a climbing multiplier at much higher volatility. Cleopatra Gold reworks the feature into Gold Spins respins at 95.97%.

Q

Why does my casino show a different RTP than another site?

AM

Because the two operators publish different figures: BetMGM prints 95.02% for this IGT title, DraftKings 92.02%, and BetMGM adds that RTP varies by jurisdiction. We never average them — read your own lobby’s paytable.

Play within your budget

Cleopatra's published 95.02% return carries a 4.98% house edge: every $100 cycled costs $4.98 on average across the long run, not one session.

Signs worth acting on: chasing losses, staking more than planned, borrowing to play, or playing to escape stress. Set a limit, take a time-out, or call 1-800-GAMBLER — or the National Council on Problem Gambling on 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738).

United States21+ · state-licensed

You must be 21+. Real-money online casino is state-licensed and state-limited, so eligibility depends on where you are, and every licensed lobby runs geolocation and identity checks.

Free help & adviceUS · confidential

The National Council on Problem Gambling runs a free, confidential helpline on 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738). 1-800-GAMBLER is still live, and is the number New Jersey's own state site gives players. Crisis line: 988.

Tools & limitsstate programs

Deposit limits, time-outs and cooling-off sit in every licensed lobby's account menu, next to your state's self-exclusion program. Terms differ: New Jersey covers every internet site in one request, Pennsylvania's iGaming exclusion expires, Michigan splits online from retail, Connecticut offers an irreversible lifetime option.

Gambling is entertainment, not income. You must be 21+ to play in a state-licensed lobby, and T&Cs apply. ¹ Offer terms, wagering, eligibility and license detail as read on each operator's own pages on 1 August 2026.

16 Frequently asked questions

Everything US players ask about Cleopatra

The questions US players actually type into Google, taken from the live People Also Ask sets on 1 August 2026 — not invented to fill a schema block.

01

What is the RTP of Cleopatra slot?

BetMGM publishes 95.02% on its own page; DraftKings publishes 92.02% for the same IGT title, and BetMGM adds that RTP varies by jurisdiction. Read the RTP line in your own lobby's paytable.

02

How to play the Cleopatra game?

Five reels, three rows, up to 20 selectable lines; the total bet is the line bet times the lines you play. Three or more Sphinx scatters anywhere award 15 free spins at 3×. Set the line count first.

03

How to win big on Cleopatra slots?

The top pay is 10,000× the line bet — 500× the total bet at 20 lines. The bonus carries 25.470% of the return, and five Cleopatras is the one win the 3× does not triple. Check the line-bet column.

04

Where can I play Cleopatra?

The five state-licensed lobbies in the table above, in the states each operator publishes for itself — availability follows where you are. Check your state, then the license number on the register.

05

Is Cleopatra slot rigged, or is it truly random online?

In a state-licensed lobby the build passes the state's approved testing regime. New Jersey's DGE runs its own laboratory and requires RNG test results, reel strips, symbol weights and the theoretical return explained. Check the license on the register.

06

How often does Cleopatra actually pay?

At 20 lines the hit frequency is 35.88%, so something lands on roughly one spin in three. The bonus is rarer: about 1 in 138 spins, averaging 35.10× the total bet. Budget for that wait.

07

Is Cleopatra a profitable slot to play?

No slot is: at 95.02% every $100 cycled has an expected cost of $4.98, and the 92.02% configuration costs more. For a higher return, read why the highest-payout slots aren't best.

08

What are the odds of the 10,000× top win?

It needs five Cleopatra wilds on one active payline. The wild sits once on reels 1–4 and twice on reel 5, across an outcome space of 33,210,000. Long odds, not a promise. Confirm the line-bet basis first.

09

How fast do US casinos pay out after a Cleopatra win?

BetMGM states internal review up to 5 business days, then 24 hours by PayPal, with a $20 minimum. FanDuel states review within 24 hours. DraftKings and BetRivers publish no window — read the banking page.

10

What is the $20 method, and does it work on Cleopatra?

It is a floor ritual: feed $20, spin a set number, cash out if you are not ahead. Each spin here is independent, so the test shows nothing. Read the RTP line in the paytable instead.
