Tropicool Review

Tropicool’s base game runs on a 6×6 cluster grid where wins form when 5 or more identical symbols connect orthogonally. Cluster sizes pay progressively: 5–6 symbols are baseline; 12+ symbols are large wins; clusters reaching 20+ symbols of a single type approach maximum per-symbol payouts. Winning clusters cascade — symbols disappear and new ones drop from above, with any new clusters paying automatically.

The base game is mechanically conservative compared to ELK’s more experimental titles — the cluster cascade is the dominant interaction. What distinguishes Tropicool from other cluster slots in the same generation is the depth of integration with the Cheerleader Wild system: even base-game cluster wins can be enhanced or extended by wild interactions, providing a steady stream of small-to-mid wins that sustain bankroll between bonus triggers.

The three Cheerleader Wild characters have distinct mechanical functions:

Coco (Substitute Wild): The standard wild — substitutes for any paying symbol in clusters. Appears frequently in base play and helps complete near-misses on 4-symbol clusters into 5-symbol winning clusters.

Berry (Multiplier Wild): When part of a winning cluster, Berry applies a multiplier to that cluster’s payout. The multiplier value scales with the bonus tier (1x at Cool, escalating to higher values at Infernal). Multiple Berry wilds on one cluster multiply against each other.

Cher (Spreader Wild): When she lands, Cher spreads her wild status to adjacent positions on the grid, converting up to 4 neighbouring positions into wilds for that spin. This is the strongest single-spin wild effect — one Cher landing can convert a 5-symbol near-cluster into a 9-symbol large cluster instantaneously.

Free spins are triggered by collecting bonus symbols across cluster wins (4+ bonus symbols trigger the bonus). The bonus begins at the Cool tier — multipliers at 1x, standard wild values. Players progress to Hot after collecting additional bonus symbols during the feature, then to Burning Hot, then to Infernal at the top.

At each tier escalation, the multiplier values on Berry wilds increase, and at higher tiers, Cher’s spread expands further. Infernal tier is the structural path to large payouts — at this level, Berry multipliers can reach significant values and Cher can convert up to 8 adjacent positions. Reaching Infernal requires multiple bonus symbol collections during free spins, which depends on cluster chain length and bonus symbol drop frequency. Most bonuses finish in the Cool or Hot tier; reaching Burning Hot or Infernal is the bonus development goal.

Tropicool’s aesthetic is bright tropical beach — palm trees, sand, blue water, neon-colour fruit symbols (watermelon, kiwi, dragon fruit, pineapple). The three Cheerleader characters are animated in a stylized cartoon style with distinct outfits and personalities. The audio is upbeat tropical pop with percussion that intensifies as bonus tiers escalate; the “Infernal” transition includes a notable audio shift to a hotter, more driving rhythm.

Visually it is one of the more committed tropical-themed slots from ELK Studios, comparable to releases like Tahiti Gold (Endorphina) or Hawaiian Hideout in mood but distinct in mechanical depth. The Cheerleader characters serve as visual anchors for the mechanic — each appears with a unique animation when triggered, making the wild interactions visually clear even on first play.
